Visiting Montemaria International Pilgrimage and Conference Center: A Complete Travel Guide to the Mother of All Asia in Batangas

If you are looking for a meaningful destination in Batangas that combines faith, breathtaking views, peaceful surroundings, and memorable experiences, Montemaria International Pilgrimage and Conference Center is a place worth adding to your travel list. When my fiancé and I visited Montemaria, we quickly realized that it was more than just a religious destination. It was also a place where we could slow down, appreciate the scenery, spend quality time together, and experience one of the most impressive landmarks in Batangas.

Located in Barangay Pagkilatan, Batangas City, Montemaria sits on a scenic plateau overlooking Batangas Bay and the Verde Island Passage. Its most recognizable landmark is the enormous Mother of All Asia – Tower of Peace, a monument dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary as a symbol of unity and peace in Asia and around the world. The official Montemaria site describes the center as a faith-based tourism destination located within a larger 130-hectare township development.

For travelers searching for places to visit in Batangas, Montemaria Batangas, Mother of All Asia, or a peaceful pilgrimage destination near Batangas City, this guide covers what we experienced and what you should know before planning your own visit.

What Is Montemaria International Pilgrimage and Conference Center?

Montemaria International Pilgrimage and Conference Center is a pilgrimage and tourism destination developed by Montemaria Asia Pilgrims, Inc. The organization describes itself as a non-profit membership corporation, and it is responsible for the development of the 8-hectare tourism destination within the larger Montemaria township.

The area was historically associated with Matoco Point and later became officially known as Sitio Montemaria. The first Mass at the site was held on January 7, 2007, with several prominent Catholic clergy participating and thousands of devotees attending. Later that year, the barangay formally approved the name Sitio Montemaria.

Today, Montemaria has become one of the recognizable religious and tourist attractions in Batangas City. Its location is particularly special because the center is positioned high above the surrounding landscape, providing wide views of Batangas Bay, the Verde Island Passage, and nearby islands.

When my fiancé and I arrived, the first thing that caught our attention was the sheer size of the Mother of All Asia statue. Seeing it from a distance is already impressive, but being close to the structure gives an entirely different perspective.

The Mother of All Asia – Tower of Peace

The centerpiece of Montemaria is undoubtedly the Mother of All Asia – Tower of Peace.

According to Montemaria's official information, the monument stands approximately 98.15 meters or 322 feet high, measured from the ground to the tip of the cross on Mary's crown. It is designed as a 33-storey structure and is described by Montemaria as the tallest statue of Mary in the world. Unlike an ordinary monument, the structure is also designed as a livable building, with approximately 12,353 square meters of gross floor area.

One of the details we found fascinating was the symbolism incorporated into the design. The crown has 12 stars representing the 12 apostles, while the monument has 12 foundations representing the 12 tribes of Israel. The design also includes areas that visitors can access.

The face and hands of Mary were commissioned from renowned sculptor and National Artist Ed Castrillo. Construction of the Tower of Peace began in 2013 and was completed in 2021, coinciding with the celebration of the 500th year of Christianity in the Philippines.

For us, standing beneath such a massive religious structure was one of the highlights of the visit. It gives the experience a sense of scale that photographs cannot completely capture.

The Ambiance: Peaceful, Scenic, and Spiritual

The ambiance at Montemaria is one of its strongest attractions.

Unlike crowded commercial tourist destinations where the main focus is shopping or entertainment, Montemaria has a more peaceful and reflective atmosphere. The elevated location makes the surroundings feel open and spacious, while the views of the sea and surrounding landscape create a relaxing backdrop.

For couples like my fiancé and me, the atmosphere made the trip especially enjoyable. We were able to walk around, take photographs, appreciate the scenery, and simply spend time together without feeling rushed.

The location also provides panoramic views toward Batangas Bay and the Verde Island Passage. Government tourism information describes the center as being on a plateau overlooking the passage, Mindoro Islands, and the entrance to Batangas Bay.

Because of this, Montemaria is not only suitable for pilgrims. It can also appeal to travelers who enjoy scenic destinations, architecture, photography, and quiet places.

How to Get to Montemaria International Pilgrimage and Conference Center

Montemaria is located in Barangay Pagkilatan, Batangas City, Batangas 4200, Philippines.

For travelers coming from Manila or nearby areas, the easiest option is generally to travel by private vehicle or use a navigation application such as Waze or Google Maps. The destination can be searched using "Montemaria International Pilgrimage and Conference Center" or "Mother of All Asia – Tower of Peace."

From Batangas City proper, government tourism information indicates that Montemaria is approximately 30 minutes away, although actual travel time can vary depending on traffic, road conditions, and your exact starting point. The area is accessible by concrete road and also has access by sea.

If we were giving advice to first-time visitors, we would recommend checking the route before leaving, especially if you are unfamiliar with the roads around southern Batangas City. It is also a good idea to leave early if you want to explore the site comfortably and avoid spending the hottest part of the day walking outdoors.

The official address listed for the center is Montemaria, Barangay Pagkilatan, Batangas City, 4200 Batangas.

What Can You Do at Montemaria?

There are several activities that can make your visit more than just a quick photo stop.

1. Visit the Mother of All Asia Tower

Of course, the main reason many people visit is to see the enormous Mother of All Asia – Tower of Peace.

We recommend taking time to appreciate the architecture and the religious symbolism rather than simply taking a picture outside. The structure itself is an important part of the Montemaria experience.

Depending on the facilities and access available on the day of your visit, visitors may also be able to explore elevated viewing areas within the complex.

2. Enjoy the View Deck

One of the best things to do in Montemaria is enjoy the panoramic scenery.

The elevated location provides beautiful views of Batangas Bay and the surrounding waters. Travel information about Montemaria notes that the observation areas can provide views toward Tingloy, Verde Island, and even parts of Oriental Mindoro.

For my fiancé and me, this was one of the most relaxing parts of the trip. We could simply stand together, look toward the sea, and enjoy the scenery.

3. Take Photos

Montemaria is a great destination for photography.

The massive statue creates an obvious landmark for photographs, but the surrounding landscape offers plenty of other opportunities. Couples can take travel photos together, families can capture group pictures, and solo travelers can document their visit.

If you want better photos, morning or late afternoon can be more comfortable because of the heat. The changing sunlight can also make the scenery look different throughout the day.

4. Spend Time in Prayer and Reflection

Because Montemaria is primarily a pilgrimage destination, prayer and reflection are naturally important activities.

For Catholic visitors and devotees, the site provides an opportunity to pray, attend religious activities when scheduled, and spend quiet time reflecting on faith and personal intentions.

Even if someone is visiting primarily as a tourist, the peaceful environment can still make it a good place to pause and reflect.

5. Explore the Religious Attractions

Montemaria includes more than the main statue. The complex has religious structures and attractions designed to support its role as a pilgrimage and faith-based tourism destination.

The Batangas City government has previously identified the Infant Jesus Chapel as one of the site's notable structures and described it as a smaller replica of the Church of Our Lady Victorious in Prague, Czech Republic.

6. Try the Recreational Attractions

Montemaria has also developed attractions beyond traditional pilgrimage activities. Recent visitor information and reviews mention experiences such as the Miracle Walk or glass bridge, Statue of Mary View Deck, Mirror Deck, Rainbow Glass Ladder, and Dream Maze. Availability and pricing can change, so visitors should verify current rates and operating conditions before going.

This variety is one reason we think Montemaria can work well for couples and families. You can combine a spiritual visit with sightseeing and recreational activities.

How Much Time Should You Spend There?

We recommend giving yourselves at least several hours if you want to properly explore Montemaria.

A quick visit may be enough if your goal is simply to see the Mother of All Asia statue and take photographs. However, if you want to visit religious areas, enjoy the view, try attractions, eat, take pictures, and spend quiet time together, staying longer makes the trip more enjoyable.

My fiancé and I preferred not to rush. Part of what makes Montemaria enjoyable is the opportunity to slow down and appreciate the surroundings.

Best Time to Visit Montemaria

Montemaria can be visited throughout the year, but weather is an important consideration because several experiences involve outdoor walking and scenic viewing areas.

Early morning or late afternoon can be more comfortable than visiting during the strongest midday heat. If you want scenic photographs, these times may also provide softer natural lighting.

We would also recommend checking the weather forecast before traveling. Rain can affect outdoor attractions and make walking around less convenient.

Current online listings indicate regular operating hours around 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on weekdays and 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM on weekends, although hours can change for special events, religious celebrations, or operational reasons.

Because schedules and attraction availability can change, it is best to confirm directly with Montemaria before making a special trip.

Is Montemaria Worth Visiting?

For us, yes.

Montemaria is worth visiting if you want a destination that combines religion, architecture, nature, scenic views, photography, and quality time with loved ones.

The enormous Mother of All Asia statue alone makes the destination memorable, but the experience becomes more complete when you explore the surrounding pilgrimage facilities and take time to appreciate the view.

We especially enjoyed the contrast between the impressive scale of the monument and the peaceful atmosphere surrounding it. It does not feel like a typical city attraction. Instead, the elevated location and open scenery create a sense of distance from the busier parts of everyday life.

For couples, it can also be a meaningful place to visit together. My fiancé and I enjoyed being able to combine sightseeing with quiet moments, photography, and reflection.

Tips for First-Time Visitors

Before visiting Montemaria International Pilgrimage and Conference Center, we recommend keeping these simple tips in mind:

  • Wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes.
  • Bring water, especially if you plan to explore extensively.
  • Bring sun protection such as sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat.
  • Check the weather before traveling.
  • Bring a camera or make sure your phone has enough battery.
  • Check attraction fees and availability before your visit.
  • If you are visiting for religious purposes, check the schedule of Masses or special religious activities beforehand.
  • Give yourself enough time to explore instead of treating Montemaria as a quick photo stop.
  • Respect the religious character of the destination.
  • Keep the area clean and follow posted rules.
  • If traveling with older family members, consider accessibility and available elevators when planning your visit.

Montemaria's official information states that the Tower of Peace has three elevators, meaning visitors do not necessarily have to climb all the way to the upper levels using the stairs. Without using the elevators, reaching the crown involves approximately 420 steps.

Final Thoughts: Our Montemaria Experience

Our visit to Montemaria International Pilgrimage and Conference Center in Batangas was more than simply checking another tourist destination off our list.

For my fiancé and me, it became an opportunity to spend quality time together while experiencing one of the Philippines' most remarkable religious landmarks. From the towering Mother of All Asia statue to the peaceful surroundings and expansive views of Batangas Bay, there was something memorable around almost every part of the visit.

What we appreciated most was the combination of different experiences. We could pray and reflect, admire architecture, enjoy nature, take photographs, explore attractions, and simply sit together while looking at the sea.

If you are searching for places to visit in Batangas, especially a destination that is suitable for couples, families, pilgrims, photographers, and travelers looking for a peaceful escape, Montemaria deserves a place on your itinerary.

The Mother of All Asia – Tower of Peace may be the landmark that first catches your attention, but the peaceful atmosphere, beautiful scenery, religious significance, and growing collection of attractions are what can make the entire journey worthwhile.

For us, Montemaria was not just about seeing a giant statue. It was about the experience of being there together, appreciating the view, taking a moment to slow down, and creating another meaningful memory as a couple.

Montemaria International Pilgrimage and Conference Center is a destination where faith meets nature, architecture, and tourism—and it is definitely a place we would consider visiting again.

Ugbo 2.0: Our Street Food Odyssey in Sampaloc, Manila Philippines

When we first heard whispers of FUSION ALLEY Food Park Sampaloc, famously dubbed “Ugbo 2.0,” we were in different parts of Manila—some in the University Belt, others just passing by on errands—but all of us curious about the hype. The original Ugbo in Tondo had long been a food pilgrimage for adventurous eaters and night market lovers alike, with its endless rows of stalls, grilled skewers, exotic soups, and cheeky sweet treats. Now, this spirited concept has been reimagined closer to campus life, right between P. Noval and P. Campa streets in Sampaloc, just a short walk from UST and the rest of the academic hustle. From the outset, Ugbo 2.0 felt like a celebration of Filipino street food culture—but with its own Sampaloc personality. The streets come alive as the sun dips below the Manila skyline, and the aroma of sizzling grills and sweet fruit shakes fills the late-afternoon air. The first thing that strikes us when we walk along the vendors’ lane is the diversity of offerings: fami...
