If you're looking for a breathtaking island getaway near Metro Manila, Fortune Island in Nasugbu, Batangas should definitely be on your travel bucket list. My fiancée and I had been searching for a destination that combined crystal-clear waters, scenic cliffs, white sand beaches, and a touch of history without requiring a flight. Fortune Island exceeded our expectations and turned out to be one of the most memorable weekend trips we've ever taken.

Fortune Island is a privately managed island located off the coast of Nasugbu, Batangas, approximately 14 kilometers from the mainland. Although it has become increasingly popular among local travelers and photographers, Fortune Island still maintains its untouched charm. How to Get to Fortune Island

Step 1: Travel to Nasugbu, Batangas

My fiancée and I drove from Metro Manila to Nasugbu, which took around three to four hours depending on traffic. Travelers without private vehicles can also take a bus bound for Nasugbu from terminals in Pasay or PITX.

Step 2: Proceed to the Jump-off Point

Upon arriving in Nasugbu, you'll head to one of the designated ports or jump-off points where boats are available for hire. Since boat schedules depend on weather and sea conditions, it's highly recommended to reserve your trip with an accredited tour operator or boatman ahead of time.

Step 3: Boat Ride to Fortune Island


The boat ride usually takes around 45 minutes to one hour. During our trip, we enjoyed panoramic views of Batangas' coastline while watching the deep blue waters gradually reveal the island's towering cliffs.

As the Greek-inspired columns became visible from afar, we instantly understood why Fortune Island has become a favorite destination for photographers and content creators.


The Famous Greek Ruins

The most recognizable landmark on Fortune Island is its collection of Greek-inspired pillars standing dramatically on top of a cliff.

Originally built as part of a luxury resort project decades ago, the resort no longer operates, but the impressive ruins remain. Today, they serve as the island's signature attraction and provide one of the most stunning viewpoints overlooking the West Philippine Sea.

Standing there with my fiancée while watching the waves crash against the cliffs felt surreal. The scenery looked like something straight out of the Mediterranean, yet we were only a few hours away from Manila.

Sunrise and sunset are particularly magical here, making the ruins the perfect spot for photography.

Swim in Crystal-Clear Waters

The island's turquoise waters are incredibly inviting. We spent hours swimming near the shoreline, enjoying the refreshing water while admiring the surrounding cliffs.

Since the water becomes deep quickly in some areas, wearing a life vest is recommended, especially for less experienced swimmers.

Snorkeling

Fortune Island also offers excellent snorkeling opportunities. Colorful fish, coral formations, and clear visibility make exploring the underwater world enjoyable even for beginners.

Cliff Viewing

While cliff diving has become popular in photos and videos, it's important to prioritize safety. Sea conditions can change rapidly, and some areas may be closed depending on weather conditions.

Instead, we chose to enjoy the breathtaking cliff viewpoints while taking plenty of photos.

Hiking

The island features several short hiking trails leading to elevated viewpoints. The terrain is rocky and exposed, so comfortable footwear and plenty of drinking water are essential.

The climb isn't overly difficult, but the panoramic views from the top make every step worthwhile.

Camping

Many visitors choose to camp overnight on Fortune Island.

Camping allows travelers to experience spectacular sunsets, star-filled skies, and peaceful mornings before day-trippers arrive. My fiancée and I loved imagining how relaxing it would be to wake up surrounded by nothing but the sound of the waves.

If you plan to camp, coordinate with the island management regarding camping fees, facilities, and permitted areas.


Best Time to Visit Fortune Island


The ideal time to visit Fortune Island is during the dry season, generally from November to May, when the sea is calmer and the weather is more predictable.

Avoid traveling during storms or periods of rough seas, as boat trips may be suspended for safety reasons.

Visiting early in the morning also helps avoid intense afternoon heat while giving you the best lighting for photography.
